Raising Alpacas in the U.S., began its genesis in 1987, with the first import of alpacas from south america.  As a boy of 11, I was a caddy. My dad and all the golfers at hte Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club wore these sweaters. They were called golf sweaters. These sweaters were made from alpaca. At that young age I was dedicated to having these animals one day for my own to raise.

My late wife Elise & myself began our alpaca journey together in 2006. We statred with 4 alpacas and imported a dozen from Canada that same year. Elise left us here on her eternal journey far to early. Elise was a contributor to research and new programs and directions for the marketing and production of alpaca products. We shafed the love of the industry and these unique charactors.

Gretchen joined me in the vision of this business. So sorry Gretchen's life was cut short. Gretchen had the energy and drive of 10 people.

Denise from Whidbey loved these beautful warm animals. Denise and I worked side by side together with rewarding results. For years Denise, expertly worked the Ranch & The Alpaca Boutique as well as on the tours on our Arlington Ranch. We wanted to open a branch of SFAR Ranch and The Alpaca Boutique on Whidbey Island. We were never able to find that location which would bring the hoped success. Denise departed and is no longer a member of my family.

Karen Sturgeon has become my wife and a complete partner. Karen's deep expereience in retail is exceptional. He fresh enthisiasm and marketing skills along with her passion and dedication is only equaled by Elise. Karen has brought the inspiration and energy to find and open the perfect location for success of SFAR Ranch and The Alpaca Boutique here on Whidbey Island. We are open and spreading our wings to share this experience with the visitors and people living on Whidbey Island. Thank you Karen.

Shepherding these breathtaking, delighhting, graceful and magnificently unique criters is a Labour of Love for us.  It is an honor to share the passion of this industry and to mentor and educate others concerning alpacas. As a Past President of the Pacific Northwest Alpaca Assc. I have a commitment to these animals and the industry, also the wonderful folks in the industry
